How To Avoid Getting Arrested During Spring Break

Spring break is in full swing, and most of you spring breakers are college students pursuing long-term careers in your field of study. However, getting arrested could potentially ruin all of your efforts thus far. Marijuana charges, Minor In Possession, DUI charges, or any other misdemeanor could damage your record. Furthermore, the time and money involved to hire a criminal defense lawyer or DUI lawyer to defend your case can add unnecessary additional stress to any college student. Although some things are unavoidable, here are some tips to avoid getting arrested during spring break:

AlcoDui-Lawyerhol Abuse

Not only does alcohol abuse tend to lead to questionable decisions with negative consequences, but the U.S. Department of State reports that alcohol is involved in the majority of the arrests and accidents that occur on Spring Break. Pace yourself and try your hardest to refrain from taking shots. Seriously, when has anything good come from throwing back shots?

Only Go Places Within Walking Distances

If you get pulled over during Spring Break, chances are the officer will want to search your vehicle. If there are any drugs, drug paraphernalia, or opened alcohol containers, you could be looking at a future court date. DUI charges and Minor In Possession of Alcohol offenses are all potentially avoided if you only go to places that you can walk (or stumble) home from. Hiring a DUI lawyer is the last thing you need to be thinking about while relaxing on the beach.

Leave the Attitude At Home

Despite how wrong a cop may seem to be or how rudely he or she may act towards you, never become confrontational or disrespectful to a cop who may be questioning or detaining you and your friends. Your possession of marijuana charges, Minor in Possession charges, or any other charges that may be minor at the time can quickly become a bigger issue if the cop arrests you because he or she is fed up with your attitude. And when this cop shows up on your court date, he will likely inform the judge and your DUI lawyer about the troubles you gave him. There are too many instances when a detained person could have walked away free had they just been polite and cooperative. Remember all the manners your parents told you about growing up, and you could stay in the clear.

If you do, unfortunately, find yourself faced with a misdemeanor, felony, or any other arrest while on Spring Break, you undoubtedly have a lot on the line. With a promising future at stake, you owe it to yourself to have a dedicated attorney to protect your rights. We will do everything we can to keep your criminal record clean.
