About Townsend Myers
NOLA Criminal Law is me, Townsend Myers.
I am a 1989 graduate of the University of South Carolina Honors College, magna cum laude, and a 1993 graduate of the University of Chicago Law School. While in law school, I completed a clinical education program with a concentration in criminal law. After graduating, I began my legal career as an Assistant Public Defender with the Cook County Public Defender’s Office in Chicago.
I have been a criminal lawyer and only a criminal lawyer ever since.
Building a Criminal Defense Practice in New Orleans
In 1996, I returned to New Orleans and continued my career with the Orleans Parish Public Defender’s Office. In early 1998, I founded NOLA Criminal Law because I believed there was a need for a lawyer who approached criminal defense differently.
Too often, lawyers don’t make sense to their clients. People feel unheard, misunderstood, or confused about what is happening in their case. In criminal law especially, communication is critical. If your lawyer does not understand your problem, your lawyer cannot help solve it.

NOLA Criminal Law exists because I want to understand your problem. It exists because I believe you should be able to talk to your lawyer openly and honestly without feeling talked down to or ignored.
I try to be a lawyer without always acting like a lawyer. I do, however, dress like one. More importantly, I promise to treat you like a regular person who deserves respect, attention, and clear answers.

Over the course of my career, I have handled well over 4,000 felony criminal cases, hundreds of DUI/DWI cases, and countless misdemeanor and traffic cases. That experience matters when decisions are made, arguments are presented, and results are pursued in court.
